This is the most painstakingly constructed song on the album.
If you look carefully at the lyric, you'll see that it has three
verses each ending with a quadruple rhyme, and that those rhymes
culminate in the one-word payoffs 'yet', 'soon', and 'now'. It's
a self-imposed and very self-concious constraint, a conceit, I suppose
you'd have to call it.

I think it's the only song I've done in which I knew exactly where
I was going before I'd written a line.
Within that framework, you then have to squeeze in quite a subtle
narrative and a few laugh-lines, all the while trying to make it
flow musically and keeping that last 'now' as a surprise even when
the audience has all the clues as to where the song is tending.
Nice when it works, though.
